The "King Of Online Capital Raising" - Dr. Ahmad Glover of WiGL
Advice on how to succeed in equity crowdfunding from the man who has raised nearly $8M on StartEngine.
Between running his own company and mentoring and advising multiple startup founders, I wasn't sure Dr. Glover would have time to connect with me, but the man is a machine. He not only made time for me, but he makes time to respond to investor questions on his startup page at 2:00am.
Dr. Glover is the CEO and founder of WiGL. Rally On had the pleasure of working with Dr. Glover on the pitch video for his recent Reg A+ raise on StartEngine. As of 2/15, they've raised $2.6M. Their previous Reg CF was the first CF raise on StartEngine to max out at $5M.
In this brief interview, Dr. Glover answers the following questions:
- Why did you an equity crowdfunding round?
- What was your best tactic for getting investors?
- What was the biggest mistake you made?
- What's 1 best piece of advice for founders doing crowdfunding?
- What he learned from a billionaire investor.
Who are you: Dr. Ahmad Glover, Founder and CEO of WiGL. We’re bringing touchless wireless power to the masses.
Crowdfunding raised: Nearly $8M
Why did you do an equity crowdfunding raise? After driving several hundred miles through the night to meet with a potential billionaire investor, only to find out he was mainly looking to size me up before beginning the diligence process. At that moment we decided meeting with VC and angel investors during a pandemic was not for WiGL.
What is your best tactic for getting investors? Understanding that different investors want different information, and then providing it to them, where they are. Some investors want to better understand the industry, some want to better understand the product, etc. Some are on StartEngine or our email list or Facebook. We’ve found success making it easy for investors to get the info hey need
What was the biggest mistake you made? Getting into arguments with people on the internet and in the comments section of our raise who had no interest in the truth. It’s not worth the time or energy.
What's the #1 best piece of advice for founders doing crowdfunding?
Grow a really thick skin. Some of the things that you think are going to work are not going to work. Some people are going to say things you don’t like. So grow a thick skin and make adjustments as needed.
